International Welcome (Back) Breakfast - FREE FOOD!

Welcome back to UCI! Come meet and welcome the new international exchange students and welcome back fellow UCI students who have recently returned from abroad for a FREE BREAKFAST! Bring friends, make friends, eat and be merry! See you there!

LESSONS FROM ABROAD: Study Abroad Returnee Conference
At UC San Diego on Saturday, February 25, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.  (It is a 1-hour drive from UCI to UCSD is good driving conditions.)
Your registration fee of $15 covers the cost of lunch and conference materials.  Past participants say the conference benefited them personally and professionally. 

  • Reflect upon your experiences abroad, lessons learned and skills gained
  • Learn how to present your global skills in a job interview

  • Explore international opportunities for your future in the U.S. and abroad

Your Future is Global

Graduate Fellowship:  Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program  Application Due:  January 20, 2012
The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program seeks applicants who are interested in promoting positive change in the world as Foreign Service Officers for the U.S. Department of State.  The fellowship is open to undergraduate seniors and recent graduates who intend to begin two-year master’s programs in the fall of 2012.  This program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. Three UCI graduates have been awarded this fellowship in the past four years.  All three had studied abroad while at UCI.

Global Leadership Certificate Program (GLCP)
Discover what it means to be a leader in a global context.  Get involved at UCI and abroad.  Develop leadership skills and put them into action!  This certificate program can help set you apart as you transition from undergrad to the professional world.  You can initiate change and make a difference.  Check us out on the web (link above) and attend the information session for more details:

Extend your international learning through Research – UROP
Plan a faculty-mentored research project on an international topic that interests you. Opportunities are available to apply for research funding, for publication in the UCI Undergraduate Research Journal, and to present your research at the annual UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Extend your international learning through Internships – UCDC
You've been abroad - now gain hands-on experience interning in a globally-focused internship.  Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many, many more! Teach English Abroad.  Prepare through UCI Extension TEFL Certificate
Learn the top 8 tips you should consider before leaving the U.S. to teach abroad.  Teaching can be an amazing adventure and bring invaluable life experience, but there are many things to consider before finding the right job, adjusting to a new country, and developing a connection with your students.  Learn how to:

  • Get a serious look from a future employer
  • Transition to a new culture and surroundings
  • Identify great sources of teaching examples and stay relevant to your students

Study Abroad Again! – UCI Summer Session Travel-Study
Programs this summer in Europe, Asia, or the Americas!  Learn more about all of our programs, including our new Korea and Southeast Asia programs, at our first info sessions of the New Year on January 18 and 19. You will hear from recent alumni about their experiences and gain insight about program specifics from our friendly and knowledgeable staff.

International and Global Studies Club
Meets Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. in SSPB 5206
Come join discussions with peers and faculty on topics of international and global interest. Examples of past topics are: Failed States and the Importance of the Nation-State in Global Politics; Religion, Identity, and the War on Terror: Insights from Religious Humanitarianism; Human Trafficking: The Unintended Effects of UN Intervention The club meets every other Wednesday on even weeks of the quarter and each meeting features a different international topic.

iClub – Join today!
Join us at our week 1 Winter Wonderland Party!  Make friends from all over the world. English Conversation ProgramMeet international students every Monday!
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the International Center, Student Center room G303
The English Conversation Program is an English practice forum which encourages language development through casual discussion with native English speakers in a friendly environment.  Native English speakers, who facilitate the discussion, may be volunteers (everyone is welcome!) or may enroll in a Student Affairs class to receive 1.3 units of academic credit. Students interested in earning academic credit can email intl@uci.edu for a class code and more information.

Communication Club (conversation partners)   Join today!

UCI Extension International Programs organizes friendly soccer play with students from around the world.  Everyone is welcome!

International Pub Night
Every Thursday night at the Anteater Pub & Grille in the UCI Student Center.  Meet international students, study abroad returnees, residents from the International Village, members of the International Club and more!  Everyone is welcome!  International Students over 21, be sure to bring your UCI ID and passport to be served.

Distinguish yourself at Graduation - Get a Country Sash

Show your global pride at graduation and make your international experience visible! Accent your cap and gown with a Country Sash! The special discount price for UCI Students is $28.  Order at the Study Abroad Center in 1100 Student Services II by May 11th. We can only accept exact cash or checks. You can see the sashes here but be sure to order through the Study Abroad Center in order to receive the discounted price.

Share your experience abroad with others

Are you tired of talking about your time abroad with friends and family and seeing their eyes glaze over? Below are some ways for you to get a captive audience and share about your experiences with people who want to hear it.

  • Join Us On Facebook  Show UCI students what YOU did abroad! Post your photos, videos, blogs, stories, and more on the Anteaters Abroad page on Facebook. This is an easy way to promote study abroad at UCI and could quite possibly inspire someone else to take their journey!
