LESSONS FROM ABROAD: Study Abroad Returnee Conference - Register Today!
At UC San Diego on Saturday, February 25, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. 
UCI students who have participated in past conferences  have found it to be beneficial both personally and professionally.  At the conference you will reflect upon your experiences abroad, lessons learned, and skills gained; network with students and professionals; and consider future opportunities at home and abroad.  Your registration fee covers the cost of lunch and conference materials ($15 in advance; $20 on-site). 

On-Campus Leadership - Share what you learned abroad with fellow UCI students
Develop your leadership skills, share international and global insights and knowledge with fellow UCI students while earning money, academic credit and/or developing professional skills.  Apply for the following on-campus positions during winter or spring quarters:

UC Irvine Extension's Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate Program
Learn the top 8 tips you should consider before leaving the U.S. to teach abroad.  Teaching can be an amazing adventure and bring invaluable life experience, but there are many things to consider before finding the right job, adjusting to a new country, and developing a connection with your students.  Learn how to get a serious look from a future employer; transition to a new culture and surroundings; identify great sources of teaching examples; and stay relevant to your students.  Learn more at upcoming information sessions.

UCEAP Research Award $1000Apply by May 4, 2012
These awards recognize undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves through their excellence in research conducted while abroad on EAP.To be eligible you must complete a final paper on your research by the end of spring quarter 2012.  More details at the link above.

Internships in Washington D.C. (UCDC) or Sacramento (UCCS)
You've gained valuable experience and transferrable skills abroad - now use those skills while gaining hands-on work experience interning in a globally-focused internship.  Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many, many more! Come to an Information Session to learn more:

Make friends from all over the world! The International Club is a social club designed to bring together international students and domestic students through activities, events and excursions. 

English Conversation ProgramMeet international students every Monday!
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the UCI Student Center, room G303
The English Conversational Program allows international students to improve conversational English skills by engaging in discussions with native English speakers. Meet international students and scholars from around the world and gain exposure to multiple perspectives on current events, both local and global. 

Communication Club (conversation partners) - Join any quarter and continue for as many quarters as you want!
Be a conversation partner for a UCI Extension international student, on a quarter by quarter basis. Play Sports with International Students - Soccer! Volleyball! Basketball!
Join international students for some recreational sports. Winter quarter:

  • Volleyball/Basketball Mondays from 3:30 - 5:00 pm at Middle Earth
  • Soccer Fridays from 4:00 - 8:00 at the ARC fields.

International Pub Night
Every Thursday night at the Anteater Pub & Grille in the UCI Student Center.  Meet international students, study abroad returnees, residents from the International Village, members of the International Club and more!  Everyone is welcome!  International Students over 21, be sure to bring your UCI ID and passport to be served.

Distinguish Yourself at Graduation – Get a Country Sash – Order by May 11
Show your global pride at graduation and make your international experience visible! Accent your cap and gown with a Country Sash! The special discount price for UCI Students is $28.  You can check out the sashes here but be sure to order through the Study Abroad Center in order to receive the discount price.  Order by May 11 at the Study Abroad Center in 1100 Student Services II.  We can only accept exact cash or checks.

UCI 2012 GradTrip! – Information Session February 16
Go abroad again!  Join the UCI 2012 GradTrip!  The trip will run from June 21 - July 4 and visit a variety of cities throughout Western Europe.  There will be ONE information session regarding the trip and it will be held on Thursday, Feb 16th at 12pm inside the Alumni House.   For general trip details, please visit www.statravel.com/uci  and please RSVP for the Information Session here.

Are you tired of talking about your time abroad with friends and family and seeing their eyes glaze over? Below are some ways for you to get a captive audience and share about your experiences with people who want to hear it.

  • Join Us On Facebook  Show UCI students what YOU did abroad! Post your photos, videos, blogs, stories, and more on the Anteaters Abroad page on Facebook. This is an easy way to promote study abroad at UCI and could quite possibly inspire someone else to take their journey!
