On-Campus Leadership - Share what you learned abroad with fellow UCI Students

Develop your leadership skills, share international and global insights and knowledge with fellow UCI students while earning money, academic credit and/or developing professional skills.  Apply for the following on-campus positions during winter or spring quarters:

  • Anteater Mentorship Program (AMP)Application Deadline:  March 1
    AMP Mentors seek to ease the transition for incoming freshmen and transfer students while developing and enhancing leadership skills.
  • Career Center Peer ConsultantApplication Deadline:  March 4
    For more information, attend one of the following information sessions at the Career Center:
    • Wednesday, 2/13, 1:00pm
    • Tuesday, 2/26, 2:00pm
  • UTeach – Teach fellow UCI students what you learned abroad – Apply in Spring quarter.  Watch for information sessions in late winter quarter.

Global Brigades at UCIService projects spring break and summer 2013!
Global Brigades at UC Irvine is a group of passionate student and professional volunteers who work on sustainable development projects in Honduras, Panama and Ghana. Our mission is to provide long term solutions to problems instead of simply putting a band-aid over the issues. Global Leadership Certificate Program (GLCP)
Discover what it means to be a leader in a global context.  Get involved at UCI and abroad.  Develop leadership skills and put them into action!  This certificate program can help set you apart as you transition from undergrad to the professional world.  You can initiate change and make a difference.  Check us out on the web at the link above.

Minor in Civic and Community Engagement
Take what you have learned abroad and put it into community action and public service.  The Minor in Civic and Community Engagement gives you the knowledge, skills, and values to be agents of change in your community. The minor is open to all undergraduate majors on campus.

UC Irvine Extension's Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate Program
Live and work around the world.  This 10-week summer intensive program allows you to earn your certificate in a consolidated amount of time and gives you the quality training you need to teach with confidence.  Valuable benefits include the opportunity for interaction with visiting international students, job referral assistance, and post-program staff support.  Learn more at upcoming information sessions.

Career Discovery SeriesVarious dates winter and spring quarters, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Career Center.  Non-Profits Panel on February 13.
Did your future career plans change after studying abroad?  Many students find that they do.  Explore your new career interests at the Career Center’s Career Discovery Series.  Alumni and community member panelists discuss their career path and share tips and hints for getting into their career field.

UCEAP Research Award $1000Apply by May 3, 2013
These awards recognize undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves through their excellence in research conducted while abroad on a UCEAP program.To be eligible you must complete a final paper on your research by the end of spring quarter 2013.  More details at the link above.

Internships in Washington D.C. (UCDC) or Sacramento (UCCS)
You've gained valuable experience and transferable skills abroad - now use those skills while gaining hands-on work experience interning in a globally-focused internship. Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many, many more! Come to an Information Session to learn more:

Make friends from all over the world! The International Club is a social club designed to bring together international students and domestic students through activities, events and excursions. 

English Conversation Program Facilitator - Enrollment for Spring quarter opens soon!
Mondays 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. 
Meet students from around the world -- further your cultural insight, build relationships, and recognize the value of our diverse campus community! The ECP is an English improvement and practice forum which encourages English language development for international students through casual discussion in a friendly, fun, and casual environment. English facilitators assist others by improving their English conversation skills through one-on-one pairings, group activities, and more! Communication Club (conversation partners) - Now accepting applications for Spring Quarter.

International Coffee Hour
Fridays, 12-1 p.m., Counseling Center, Student Services I
Co-hosted by the International Center and the Counseling Center, this is an opportunity to share culture and friendship in a casual environment.  Topics of conversation are as diverse as the people who meet each week.

Play Sports with International Students - Soccer! Volleyball! Basketball!
Join international students for recreational sports. Winter quarter schedule:

  • Volleyball/Basketball Mondays from 3:30 - 5:00 pm at the courts near Extension
  • Soccer Fridays from 3:00 - 8:00 at the ARC fields.

The special discount price for UCI Students is $28.  Order at the Study Abroad Center in 1100 Student Services II by May 10th. We can only accept exact cash or checks. You can check out the sashes here but be sure to order through the Study Abroad Center in order to receive the discounted price.

Share your experience abroad with others

Are you tired of talking about your time abroad with friends and family and seeing their eyes glaze over? Below are some ways for you to get a captive audience and share about your experiences with people who want to hear it.

  • Join Us On Facebook  Show UCI students what YOU did abroad! Post your photos, videos, blogs, stories, and more on the Anteaters Abroad page on Facebook. This is an easy way to promote study abroad at UCI and could quite possibly inspire someone else to take their journey!
  • Be in the Student Spotlight on our home page.  We would love to include YOUR story. Take a look at the short list of questions on EEE and respond to those that pertain to you. These Student Spotlights motivate UC Irvine students of today and tomorrow to follow in your foot-steps and make the life-changing decision to study abroad!
