This 1-unit seminar is for recently returned study abroad participants who don’t want the study abroad experience to end and want to know how to keep it alive within you.  Reflect on what you’ve learned and discover how to move forward in job searching, further education and personal development – right now and into the future.  Contact the Study Abroad Center for the course enrollment access code.

During International Education Week, join the UCI Study Abroad Center for an experience of historical and cultural discovery.  Watch the 2009 film, Invictus, starring Academy Award winners Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman and directed by Clint Eastwood.  Invictus tells the inspiring true story of how South African president, Nelson Mandela, joined forces with the captain of South Africa's rugby team to help unite their fractured country through the universal language of sport.  It's a picture full of emotion, magnetism, and revelation. Enjoy a dessert reception following the movie with UCI students, faculty, staff, and alumni.  Watch for details in October.  Advance registration required.

English Conversation Program FacilitatorJoin now!
Mondays 4pm-5pm, Tuesdays 4pm-5pm, or Thursdays 4pm-5pm
Meet students from around the world.  Further your cultural insight, build relationships and appreciate our diverse campus community at ECP! Serve as an English Facilitator and assist international students with building their conversational English skills.  Each week, you will participate in one-on-one pairings, group activities and more. Summer Session International Student MentorApply by November 5
Looking to extend your study abroad experience? Want to get involved on-campus during the summer?  Assist short-term visiting international students as they study abroad at UC Irvine this coming summer. In 2014, we had over 300 students from 24 different countries immerse themselves into Anteater life. You will develop leadership and professional skills through the Leadership Development Program in winter and spring quarter and then will apply your skills to support visiting international students throughout the summer. International Club (or iClub) is a UCI student club designed to bring together international and domestic undergraduate and graduate students through fun and constructive social events. Past events have included bonfires, hikes, Thanksgiving dinners, pub nights, and game days. The club has members from all over the world, and includes both UCI undergraduates and graduate students. Communication Club (conversation partners) - Join for the fall!
Be a conversation partner for a UCI Extension international student, September through early December. Live in the International House in Arroyo Vista
Will you be a student at UCI the 2015-16 academic year? Then choose to live in Arroyo Vista’s International House. The International House is a living-learning opportunity for students who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of different cultures, share international perspectives, and build friendships with students from around the world. Half of the residents in the International House are international students and half are students from the U.S. The house offers a wide variety of cross-cultural activities and learning experiences, including special dinners, culture nights, holiday festivities, intramural sports, and specialized academic course offerings.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
Get Involved in Research Workshops, multiple dates beginning October 8

Did an international topic spark your interest while abroad?  Plan a faculty-mentored research project on your international area of interest.  Opportunities are available to apply for research funding, for publication in the UCI Undergraduate Research Journal, and to present your research at the annual UCI Undergraduate Research Symposium.  Visit the UROP website (above) for details, including workshop registration.

Global Connect – Teach global issues to high school students
Application due: Wednesday, October 1, 2014
Share your global spirit and spread your global knowledge to others. Become an academic intern to teach interactive workshops on concepts that define the 21st century, such as global trends, borderless social issues, and the multi-dimensional themes of globalization. Global Connect is an educational initiative that partners with secondary schools to teach a course on Globalization and International Relations.   Global Connect interns earn 2 units P/NP.   Application required.  More information on the web or contact Jessica Chan at

Civic and Community Engagement Minor – Join today!
The Civic and Community Engagement minor gives you the knowledge, skills, and values to be agents of change in “your” community - whether you see it as local or global.  Learn how to effectively contribute to the mission of community organizations for social change and connect with other students like you.  You can start the minor by enrolling in Introduction in Civic and Community Engagement (University Studies 10) winter quarter.  Information on how to declare the minor on the web site.

Global Brigades at UCI

Global Brigades is the world’s largest student-led global health and sustainable development organization. Student brigades travel to Honduras, Ghana, Panama, and Nicaragua to work in partnership with local communities to improve the quality of life in under resourced regions while respecting local culture.  Global Brigades at UCI has brigades in the following areas: Business/Microfinance, Dental, Environmental, Engineering, Human Rights, Medical, Public Health, and Water. Discover opportunities to Study, Teach, Work, Volunteer, Intern or Research abroad! You can go anywhere in the world!  Meet representatives from over 50 UC and non-UC programs abroad including graduate study and non-study opportunities (i.e. work, teaching, etc.).

You've been abroad - now gain hands-on experience interning in a globally-focused internship in your own backyard. Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many, many more!

Share Your Experience Abroad with Others

Are you tired of talking about your time abroad with friends and family and seeing their eyes glaze over? Below are some ways for you to get a captive audience and share about your experiences with people who want to hear it.

  • UCEAP Video Contest:
    Are you a UCEAP returnee who took videos while you were abroad? Do you want to help promote UCEAP to other students? If so, you can submit your videos for a chance to have it featured by UCEAP and win a $50 Amazon gift card (10 available). Click here to submit your video.
