What Next?

On-Campus Leadership - Share what you learned abroad with fellow UCI students
Develop your leadership skills, share international and global insights and knowledge with fellow UCI students while earning money, academic credit and/or developing professional skills.  Apply for the following on-campus positions during spring or summer.

  • International Peer Group Mentor - Assist new degree-seeking international students in making a smooth transition to life at UCI.  Paid position.  Apply by April 1, 5:00pm
  • Study Abroad Center Peer Advisor – Help UCI students study abroad.  Share your wisdom, tips and experience.  Paid position. Application will be available in June.
  • Student Support Services Peer Educator – Assist SSS students to succeed and thrive, socially and academically.  Apply by April 3, 5:00pm
  • Transfer Student Center Peer Educator – Assist the TSC office to provide a welcoming environment and assist transfer students with their transition to UCI.   Apply by April 3, 5:00pm.
  • Summer Resident Advisor in AV - Develop a sense of community among summer residents in Arroyo Vista.  Free housing and stipend.  Apply by April 5
  • R.E.A.C.H. Facilitator – Help promote multicultural understanding that is important for community harmony.  Apply in mid-spring quarter.
  • UTeach – Share what you learned abroad by teaching your own seminar to fellow UCI students.  Apply in spring quarter. 
  • Global Connect Internship – Teach global issues to high school students in Orange County and earn units.  Apply by May 1

Global Leadership Certificate Program (GLCP)
Discover what it means to be a leader in a global context.  Get involved at UCI and abroad. Global Brigades at UCIService projects abroad summer 2015!
Global Brigades at UC Irvine is a group of passionate student volunteers who work on sustainable development projects in Honduras and Panama. Join one of these summer brigades.  In Honduras:  Global Microfinance Brigades, Global Engineering Brigades, Global Medical/Dental Brigades, and Global Water Brigades.  In Panama:  Human Rights Brigades and Environmental Brigades.  Our mission is to provide long term solutions to problems instead of simply putting a band-aid over the issues.  For more information check the link above or email globalbrigadesuci@gmail.com

UCI Summer Session:  Study Public Health in Bali this Summer – Apply now! 
Study public health principles and examine health and disease at the Bali Institute for Global Renewal, a premier world learning center in beautiful Bali, Indonesia. In addition to earning UCI units, students may petition to complete their Public Health Practicum hours in Bali. Information sessions:

UCI Extension TEFL Certificate Teach English Abroad. 
What are you doing this summer?  Program starts June 20.
Teaching English abroad is a great way start a new career and gain global experience. Your adventures abroad continue when you complete UCI Extension’s 10-week summer intensive program. Money/Job Experience for Your International Experience

UCI XIV Dalai Lama Endowed ScholarshipApply by April 2, 2015
This scholarship supports exceptional students who are committed to advancing the values of compassion, contemplation, courage, interconnectedness, collaboration, humility and service who want to design and launch ambitious "compassion-in-action" projects aimed at engaging campus and/or community members. The UCI XIV Dalai Lama Endowed Scholarship awards one student up to $10,000 for their 2015-2016 fees as well as a grant of up to $10,000 from the Dalai Lama Fellows to support the project costs.

UCEAP Research Award $1000Apply by May 1, 2015
These awards recognize undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves through their excellence in research conducted while abroad on a UCEAP program.To be eligible you must complete a final paper on your research by the end of spring quarter 2015.  More details at the link above.

Internships in Washington D.C. (UCDC) or Sacramento (UCCS)
You've gained valuable experience and transferable skills abroad - now use those skills while gaining hands-on work experience interning in a globally-focused internship.  Internships are available in virtually any field, including internship sites such as Amnesty International, Interpol, Center for International Policy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Citizens for Global Solutions, US State Department, and many more! Come to an Information Session to learn more:

Meet students from around the world -- further your cultural insight, build relationships, and recognize the value of our diverse campus community! Serve as an English Facilitator and assist international students with building their conversational English skills! Across the Bridge: Diversity Dialogue – Lunch included!

Across the Bridge is an opportunity for international and domestic students to have an open conversation about topics of diversity. Enjoy a free meal and meet students from all over the world! The topic for the April dialog will be available in early Spring Quarter. Across the Bridge is a collaboration between the International Center, Cross-Cultural Center and Study Abroad Center.

International Studies Club
The International Studies Club is an academic club designed to integrate students from all backgrounds who share a common interest in the global arena. From areas of public health assistance, governance and public policy to anthropology and culture.  ISC incorporates academic events that focus on global issues, societies and cultures and students can come together to synthesize opinions and ideas. The synergistic club is designed for all students of UCI, regardless of major.

iClub (International Club)
Make friends from all over the world! The International Club is a social club designed to bring together international students and domestic students through activities, events and excursions. Find details on Facebook link above.

Communication Club (conversation partners)
Meet international students from around the world. Practice a language you are learning. Introduce an international student to American culture and help them with their English. For more information, contact the Communication Club at (949) 824-8530 or commclub@uci.edu.

International Coffee Hour
Fridays, 12-1 p.m., Counseling Center, Student Services I
Co-hosted by the International Center and the Counseling Center, this is an opportunity to share culture and friendship in a casual environment.  Topics of conversation are as diverse as the people who meet each week.

Distinguish Yourself at Graduation – Get a Country Sash – Order by May 8
Show your global pride at graduation and make your international experience visible! Accent your cap and gown with a Country Sash! The special discount price for UCI Students is $30.  Order at the Study Abroad Center in 1100 Student Services II by May 8. We can only accept exact cash or checks. You can check out the sashes here but be sure to order through the Study Abroad Center in order to receive the discount price.

Share Your Experience Abroad with Others

Are you tired of talking about your time abroad with friends and family and seeing their eyes glaze over? Below are some ways for you to get a captive audience and share about your experiences with people who want to hear it.

  • Join Us On Facebook.  Show UCI students what YOU did abroad! Post your photos, videos, blogs, stories, and more on the Anteaters Abroad page on Facebook. This is an easy way to promote study abroad at UCI and could quite possibly inspire someone else to take their journey!
  • Be in the Student Spotlight on our home page.   We would love to include YOUR story.  Take a look at the short list of questions on EEE and respond to those that pertain to you.  These Student Spotlights motivate UC Irvine students of today and tomorrow to follow in your foot-steps and make the life-changing decision to study abroad!
