"...my experiences abroad fostered a sense of resilience - the ability to adapt and power through any circumstancee - thats helped me in all areas of my life.."

Why did you choose your particular study abroad program/location?
I chose Australia's marine biology and terrestrial ecology program due to a combination of my personal interests and my major requirements. I've always dreamed of visiting the Great Barrier Reef, and I've always been interested in Australian culture. Furthermore, my study abroad program satisfied numerous upper division biology requirements for my major.

What types of activities were you involved in while abroad that were meaningful for your learning?
I was involved in homestay, field research that took me from the Outback to the Great Barrier Reef, and unique classes while in Brisbane and throughout Queensland.

How have you changed or what have you learned due to studying abroad?
Studying abroad definitely opened my mind to how other people live and taught me how to think on a global scale. It also awakened a sense of adventure and awe that I still have today. Moreover, my experiences abroad fostered a sense of resilience - the ability to adapt and power through any circumstance - thats helped me in all areas of my life.

What are you doing now as a result of studying abroad?
I am currently training to become a neurologist, and I want to be involved in global medicine somehow. Furthermore, after studying abroad, I decided to go on a medical mission the following year. I still travel whenever time and money permits me to.

What advice would you give to a student considering studying abroad?
Do it! Studying abroad was the single most important and meaningful activity I did while in college. Choose a location based on where you truly dream to go, not just on what academic requirements it will fulfill (although it may be possible to do both). Study abroad for as long as possible, and when you are there, be fully present and cherish the experience!
