How & When to Apply to a Global Education Program

All UCI students are eligible to participate in global education opportunities including study, research, internship, and more but must follow the below 2 steps.  You DO NOT have to wait for Step 1 to be approved before proceeding to Step 2 – you can do both at the same time as long as you take both steps. Deadlines to apply can be 9-12 months before you go abroad – typically the academic year prior to when you plan to study abroad. It’s never too early to start exploring your options.

Only submit one campus approval/application per the same time period abroad. You can start working on a campus approval/application for your second choice option but do not submit it. We will work with you on submitting it if you are not accepted into your first choice.

Request UCI Campus Approval in UCIAbroad. The approval process ensures that the UCI eligibility requirements for Student International Activities are met. Some examples are ensuring that students will not be on disciplinary or academic probation. Even if you are granted the UCI Campus Approval, final acceptance to engage in a global education program is not guaranteed until you have been accepted by your host institution or program provider (see step 2).

See the appropriate table below for the Study Abroad Center open dates and deadline dates based on program option. If you cannot find your program in UCIAbroad, please email studyabroad@uci.edu with these details so we can add it: Provider Name, Program Name, Program website URL, Term Abroad.
