Deadlines & How to Apply

All programs with travel will require that you have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your program end date. If you do not have a passport or it will expire less than 6 months after your program, apply for one now. Visit UCI Passport Services or the embassy of the issuing country for information. Undocumented students can book an appointment with the University of California Immigrant Legal Services Center for guidance.

When to Apply

  • Application deadlines vary by program.
  • Typically you must apply for a program 9-12 months before departing for the program.
  • Some programs make selection decisions on a rolling basis (first-come, first-served) until they fill. For UCEAP programs, this will be noted in the chart below. For Independent Programs and Other UC Programs, be sure to check with your program provider.
  • Applications for 2021-2022 programs are closed.
  • Applications for 2022-2023 programs ARE NOW OPEN! See below for the deadlines by program option.

How to Apply

  • In order to apply for a program, you must submit applications in two different portals: the UCIAbroad portal and the program’s portal (e.g. UCEAP Portal).
  • In some cases, the UCIAbroad portal and the program’s portal are not open at the same time. Your application is not considered complete until you submit and receive approval in UCIAbroad.
  • Can’t find your program in UCIAbroad? Please email the following details so we can add your program: program provider name, program website, country, city & term you plan to study abroad.
  • Submit only ONE UCEAP application for a given Program Term.
  • Most programs are not competitive except for those marked as “Limited Spaces” in the sortable chart below.
  • Limited Spaces – Rolling Admissions = if the program indicates this in the sortable chart below, the program has limited spaces and will be filled first-come-first-served based on the UCEAP application submission date in the UCEAP Portal.
  • Limited Spaces – Fixed Deadline = if the program indicates this in the sortable chart below, the program has limited spaces, and a selection decision will be made after the deadline passes. These programs are NOT filled on a first-come-first-served basis. If we have more applicants than spaces available, the criteria usually considered for selection are eligibility for the program, GPA, and academic fit.
  • For programs with limited spaces, we suggest having a backup program option in mind but only apply to your top choice. If you are not selected for your top choice, a staff advisor will reach out to you about applying for alternative options.
  • Please reference our FAQ page for application guidance if needed.
