How & When to Apply to a Global Education Program
All UCI students are eligible to participate in global education opportunities including study, research, internship, and more but must follow the below 2 steps. You DO NOT have to wait for Step 1 to be approved before proceeding to Step 2 – you can do both at the same time as long as you take both steps. Deadlines to apply can be 9-12 months before you go abroad – typically the academic year prior to when you plan to study abroad. It’s never too early to start exploring your options.
Only submit one campus approval/application per the same time period abroad. You can start working on a campus approval/application for your second choice option but do not submit it. We will work with you on submitting it if you are not accepted into your first choice.
AND…Don’t forget to apply for or renew your passport! All programs with travel will require that you have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your program end date. If you do not have a passport or it will expire less than 6 months after your program, apply for one now. Visit UCI Passport Services or the embassy of the issuing country for information right away in case there are processing delays. Undocumented students can book an appointment with the University of California Immigrant Legal Services Center for guidance.
