UCI Faculty Resources

Students spelling out UCI over a mountain

Faculty play a central role in the study abroad process both locally and abroad. This can include connecting students to education abroad resources (including the Study Abroad Center), supporting academic integration, serving as a UCEAP Study Center Director, or leading a program abroad.

We appreciate faculty who are already engaged in this process and wanted to share other opportunities to get involved:

The UCI Study Abroad Center has a team of Study Abroad Peer Advisors who are trained to give short, 3-5 minute presentations on the basics of studying abroad (academics, program types, financial resources, timeline, how to get started etc.). Please send an email to studyabroad@uci.edu to request a class visit!

If your courses include international subject matter, consider encouraging your students to seek a first-hand experience by pursuing study abroad. Connect your students with UCI Study Abroad Center anytime and encourage them to attend a study abroad info session/event, schedule an advising appointments, or follow us on social media (YouTube and Instagram)!

UCEAP is awarding up to $3,000 to academic departments to support internationalization efforts, reduce barriers and integrate study abroad into the curriculum. The grant aims to make studying abroad an accessible and integral part of every UC student’s undergraduate experience.

Consider joining the Study Abroad Center Faculty Liaison to get involved with promoting education abroad and supporting both inbound and outbound students. Faculty Liaisons act as vital bridges between the Study Abroad Center and university departments, championing education abroad within their respective majors. Their role encompasses enhancing education opportunities, collaborating to design relevant programs, integrating global learning into departmental curricula, and assisting inbound exchange students with their integration into departments. These volunteers draw from diverse academic areas and play a significant role in enhancing students’ global education experiences.

You can design and lead your own faculty-led program abroad. Check out our UCI Faculty-Led Program Developmentpage for more information.

Tell your story and make yourself accessible for students to ask questions about your experiences abroad. Sometimes the idea of leaving UCI for a summer, quarter or year seems intimidating to students—many of whom are away from a tight-knit family or community for the first time in their lives. Hearing your first-hand experience and advice may help encourage these students to seek an experience of their own.

If you are considering any type of partnership with a foreign university, review the UCI Policy and Guidelines and contact the Office of Global Engagement for guidance and instructions.
