UCI Faculty-Led Program Development

The UCI Study Abroad Center, a unit of The Global Engagement Office, aspires to be an integral part of every student’s UCI education, providing opportunities for international, intercultural experiences through academic programs, exchanges, internships, service learning and volunteering.

The UCI Policy for Student International Activities governs all faculty-led programs involving UCI students abroad. Programs must be developed following the UCI Guidelines for Student International Activities.

As travel begins to resume and UCI student interest in education abroad remains high, the Study Abroad Center is excited to support faculty and departments in the development and coordination of faculty-led programs abroad. We aim to be your partner in this endeavor and can assist you throughout the entire process of offering a program abroad.

Generally, faculty should plan to connect with the Study Abroad Center at least 15-18 months before a program departs in order to establish academic and logistical details, coordinate with partners on campus and abroad, prepare budgets and marketing plans, and address health and safety concerns to meet university policies and guidelines.

How to Get Started with a Faculty-Led Program:

Step 1: Submit the UCI Faculty-Led Programs Interest Questionnaire

This will help the Study Abroad Center gain an understanding of your interests and initial ideas. Once you submit, the Study Abroad Center team follow up via email within 5-7 business days to schedule a kick-off meeting.

Step 2: Meet with the Study Abroad Director and Lead Advisor for Inbound Programs

We will use this opportunity to learn more and establish the best way to support and partner with you as you continue to develop your program. The Study Abroad Center can also make connections to potential partners and introduce you to other helpful resources depending on your program needs. We will also walk you through the next steps and what to expect.
